well I used to sing in Czech band and we did songs in English, now I am playing bass and we are playing songs in Czech. We were twice abroad with Disdainful and twice abroad with The Riot (but they were abroad before also with different line up)...so I didn´t think it depends on the language. I like Italian bands, Spanish, Portugal and French ones and also Japanese even understanding a single world....

Lion's Law is made up from members of well-known bands, so I can understand why they became famous quickly. Saints & Sinners, I think it probably was mainly because they sing in English though... Yeah, it must piss people off in non-English-speaking counties when good bands get ignored because they want to use their own language. |

My problem with Saints and Sinners is the same as Phil's, that Praha tourist guide clip is ridiculous. Besides I don't understand (or don't wanna accept) this way that non-native English bands form and start to sing in English, immediately have a contract with "popular" European labels, and they're on the oi map like during a year. It's also true for Lion's Law and Saints 'n' Sinners. Maybe I'm envious because we don't have English-speaker oi bands in Hungary.

Phil: ... Now that might not be new, (I had no idea), but it definitely is something to talk about. Shame I don´t know what to say to that... At least I know they´re not part of my "scene" anymore, whatever that word means these days.

Matty: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxmAK9J4Xew They're not singing in her song - they're just in the video. I'd laugh my ass off if they got her to do guest vocals on their next album though... |

What do you think about these guys? I just saw that Michal has their album in his shop now... http://www.reverbnation.com/theeastigers Not oi, but still pretty good, I thought. I might get this. They remind me a bit of Subculture (the Malaysian band). |

I suppose that you've seen how upset some people got about Lion's Law appearing in Beyonce's video? All that about how they're supporting the 'system' now or 'selling out' to the record industry, or something. Maybe I'm just getting older and more jaded now, but I'm really finding it difficult to get angry about it, or even care, really. Maybe 10 years ago, it would have pissed me off... Dunno. I like Lion's Law. |
