1. So at first can you shortly introduce your band, tell us something about your brief history, band members, hobbies, age, work and how you met each other?
We’re On Trial. We’ve been in existence since 2007. We play shows whenever we can which is when our schedules all work out. The original line up had a girl named Sarah on bass. That changed when she joined the Navy. We met Zach through a mutual friend named Oompa aka “Wet Garbage” and he’s been playing since then. Our hobbies are traveling, drinking and checking out new bands. Wes is 24, Ben is 23 and Zach is 20. It’s hard for us to play shows and practice because Wes works 3rd shift, Ben works 1st shift and Zach works 2nd shift.
2. When and why came decision to start the band and why the name On Trial?
Ben and Wes started fucking around with guitar and drums and the first day we wrote Friend Or Foe and Unionize. We went for months at a time without a bassist but continued to write music. We don’t remember how the name On Trial came about haha.
3. I check your discography and you have some stuff out DIY and one song on compilation East Coast Oi! Attack through Boots and Booze Records, can you describe briefly your discography and tell us why do you choose DIY instead of contacting some label?
We tried contacting labels and they don’t seem to care so we continue to do our own thing. Everything we ever recorded we did ourselves. But it’d be nice to be on a label. In chronological order: Thirty Years Too Late, Underage & Full Of Rage, Falling Down, “Subculture Kids” for the compilation, Today America, Tomorrow The World and a few new tracks from 2012.
4. Do you think about contacting any label from Europe? (I am sure that someone will be interested for sure)
As of now we’re negotiating a contract to record and release a full length album with Pure Impact Records. The album will be all of our favorite and best songs since we started in ’07.
5. Where can we order your stuff (I saw T-shirts and CD´s on your facebook page)
Well, you can message us on facebook for a T-shirt. We guarantee those will be in stock! Haha. But the CD’s are all just homemade and the recordings suck. The DIY CD’s won’t be printed after our official release, so you can consider them limited edition. If you want to hear what we really sound like, come to our shows.
6. Your sound is classic Oi! with out any metal influences like US bands from 80´s and 90´s...what are your musical influences? And what are the topics of your lyrics?
That’s the best question you asked so far! Haha. None of us really listen to any modern Oi! In our opinion, GOOD modern Oi! is hard to come by. It’s usually pop or hardcore with the Oi!/skinhead label. But our influences consist mostly of ‘80s and early ‘90s French, German, Swedish, British and American Oi!and/or RAC bands. But the good American bands are few and far between. The topics we sing about are mostly about working, issues in America, where we’re from, and daily life.
7. You come from Pennsylvania, can you describe the scene in your area? Bands, crews, pubs, clubs, etc... It is even possible to describe the scene in general in such a big country as USA?
We are the scene on the eastern half of Pennsylvania. There was a pretty decent place to see shows every weekend called the Sterling Hotel in Allentown. That’s where they had the first “East Coast Oi! Fest.” But that kind of disappeared… the people, the bands, the venue, everything. We can’t speak on behalf of the entire country. Everything is different everywhere you go.
8. What about the gigs in US? It is problem for patriotic Oi! band to find some place for playing? Are there some troubles with law? And are there laws so strict (like drinking under 21, no drinking on the streets, etc...)?
It’s hard to for us to find shows period. There aren’t many skinheads or Oi! bands in Pennsylvania. We usually have to travel to New Jersey or New York. Being that Zach is under 21 (the US drinking age) we ran into problems with playing bars in the past, but most places are alright with it.
9. Do you personally prefer vinyl or CD stuff? And do you prefer older or new breed bands?
We prefer vinyl and the older breed of bands. CD’s are too cheap and easy and most of the new breed bands don’t really have anything to do with REAL Oi!
10. Are you supporting some team in some kind of sport? Like football (or soccer as you said), American football, basketball, hockey, baseball?
No.
11. Do you know anything about Czech Republic?
No, not really.
12. Plans for the future?
We plan to record this legit full length album, release vinyl and play new places.
